Albert Ciarpelli was 65 years old on January 6 — a man from DeWitt, in the Syracuse, New York area, who had never been in trouble a day in his life. THEIR ACCOUNT: He told the FBI he drove to Washington on January 5 after seeing TV ads for the rally. He listened to speeches for two or three hours, then walked down Pennsylvania Avenue with the crowd. He said he found a side door open with some broken glass and, in his own words, did something he knew he should not do — he stepped inside for about 15 minutes. (CNY Central; DOJ.) FACT: He was charged with misdemeanor offenses only. No assault. No weapon. (DOJ.) THEIR ACCOUNT: Reflecting later, he said he had been 'out of his mind' that day and had never done anything like it before. He owned it. FACT: On June 1, 2024 he was sentenced to 90 days, 12 months supervised release, and 500 dollars restitution. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency to January 6 defendants. A 65-year-old grandfather. One bad decision. A full accounting. That is the whole of it. THE RECORD Case No. 1:21-mj-38, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested 01/12/2021.
