Damon Michael Beckley is a Kentucky man from Cub Run, in Hart County, cave-country farmland where people still know their neighbors by name and drive an hour for anything that is not a gas station. Cub Run is small. Hart County is small. Damon Beckley is one of the very few people from that corner of Kentucky whose name ended up in a federal courtroom in Washington, D.C. Damon Beckley was arrested January 16, 2021 with an initial appearance January 27, 2021. He was indicted April 7, 2021, arraigned April 14, 2021, and pleaded not guilty to all counts. He did not take a plea deal on the felonies. He went to a stipulated trial on February 23, 2023, where he was found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder plus misdemeanors, and he was sentenced February 9, 2024 by Chief Judge James E. Boasberg to 18 months in prison, 12 months of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution. (FACT - DOJ press release; contemporaneous news coverage.) On January 20, 2025, the January 6 clemency proclamation issued full pardons for offenses connected to the events at the Capitol. (FACT - White House proclamation.)
