Daniel Johnson of Austin, Minnesota went to Washington with his dad. His father, Daryl, came from St. Ansgar, Iowa, just over the state line. On January 6 the two ended up inside the Capitol together for about 26 minutes (FACT — DOJ). When it came time to answer for it, they did that together too: father and son both pleaded guilty to civil disorder rather than fight the case (FACT — DOJ press release; CNN). Daniel was sentenced on June 1, 2022 to four months, a year of supervised release, and $2,000 in restitution — less than the six months prosecutors asked for (FACT — Law and Crime; We Are Iowa). He served it and went home. On January 20, 2025, President Trump's clemency proclamation issued full pardons for January 6 convictions, including Daniel's (FACT). A father-and-son case from the Iowa-Minnesota line: they went together, took responsibility together, and were pardoned together.
