On January 6, 2021, Winegeart was among the crowd at the U.S. Capitol. Charges are charges: she was convicted of attempted destruction of government property and, in late 2024, sentenced to four months, a year of supervised release, and a $1,000 fine. She has never hidden her convictions or her account of that day. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency to January 6 defendants.
